The adult black turpentine beetle , Dendroctonus terebrans (Olivier), (right) is 5 to 8 mm in length, much larger than the southern pine beetle, Dendroctonus frontalis Zimmermann, (left). A grain of rice (middle) is inserted for size comparison.
