This Lyctus beetle's head is prominent and is not covered by the pronotum, a characteristic of the subfamily Lyctinae (family Bostrichidae). The antennae have 11 segments, and the last two segments are broadened into a terminal club. Adult lyctine beetles closely resemble flour beetles, but they can be distinguished by the two-segmented club (flour beetles have a three-segmented club).
